Huon Gulf District is one of Morobe Province’s Key Administrative Districts, comprising Wampar Rural LLG, Salamaua Rural LLG, and Morobe Rural LLG, with a total of 64 council wards. The District Spans Coastal Peninsulas, Maritime villages, Inland Mountains, and Fertile Plains.
The District’s Development Agenda is Guided by the Huon Gulf District Integrated Development Plan 2023–2027, aligned with Vision 2050, MTDP III, and Kundu Vision 2048.
Huon Gulf District is made up of communities spread across coastal, inland, and lowland zones, with three Local-Level Governments that each have distinct geographic and cultural identities. The district holds strong potential in agriculture, fisheries, tourism, and trade, supported by a total of 64 wards. Its strategic location connects major regional centres including Lae, Bulolo, Markham, and Oro Province, making it an important hub for movement, services, and development.

The Huon Gulf District Administration delivers a wide range of essential public services that support community wellbeing, economic growth, and effective governance. Core functions include administration and governance, economic development initiatives, infrastructure and transport improvements, and social services such as health, education, and community development. The district also oversees law and justice programs and manages the development of growth and service centres to strengthen rural service delivery across all three LLGs.
