Salamaua Local Level Government (LLG), under the leadership of LLG Manager Mr. Cliff Wembivong, together with the councilors representing all 17 wards of Salamaua LLG, has proudly become the first LLG in Huon Gulf District to officially receive copies of the Huon Gulf District 50th Independence Anniversary Magazine.
The commemorative magazine was formally presented by Huon Gulf District Administrator, Mr. Andrew Namuesh, marking a significant milestone in the district’s lead‑up to celebrating 50 years of Papua New Guinea’s Independence.
The publication captures the rich history and development journey of Huon Gulf District, documenting its formation and progress from Independence in 1975 through to 16th September 2025.
Importantly, the magazine extends beyond district‑level history, also documenting the broader story of Papua New Guinea, including key events and milestones leading up to the country’s Independence. As such, it stands as a comprehensive historical record of Huon Gulf District, Morobe Province, and Papua New Guinea as a whole.
This special publication reflects on 50 years of growth, transformation, and nation‑building, highlighting key milestones, leadership contributions, cultural heritage, and district achievements under the theme:
“50 Years of Reset.”
The initiative was proudly sponsored by the Huon Gulf District Development Authority (DDA) under the leadership of Hon. Jason Peter, Member for Huon Gulf and Minister for Community Development, Youths and Religion. His vision and commitment continue to drive development and promote the preservation of history and identity within the district.
During the presentation, Salamaua LLG Manager Mr. Cliff Wembivong emphasized the importance of preserving history for future generations. He noted that the magazine will serve as a valuable educational and reference resource for communities, schools, leaders, and stakeholders across the district and beyond.
