The people of Wampar Local Level Government (LLG) in the Huon Gulf District are celebrating a new era of development following the official launch of five major projects.
The projects were inaugurated by Huon Gulf District MP and Minister for Community Development, Religion and Youth, Hon. Jason Peter, during the 50th Jubilee Independence celebrations at Nadzab.
The developments, which are set to significantly boost education, healthcare, and law enforcement services in the area, include:
- Wampar Secondary School
- Wampar Nursing College
- Two new police houses
- A Community Development office
- A dedicated Gender-Based Violence (GBV) hall
In his address to the community, Minister Peter shared his vision for the district.
“One of my dreams and visions is to see Huon Gulf District as a ‘Morning Star’ in terms of services and development for its people,” he said.
He acknowledged that despite its proximity to Lae—Papua New Guinea’s second‑largest city—Huon Gulf has lagged behind in development and infrastructure. He emphasized his determination to change this narrative.
“When I became an MP, my goal was to elevate the district to a new level. By 2027 and after 2027, Huon Gulf must become a ‘Morning Star’ among the 96 districts in the country,” he stated.
Minister Peter noted that achieving such a vision will not be easy; however, with the support of the district administration, the three LLGs, and the District Development Authority (DDA), he believes the district is making strong progress.
He highlighted education as a top priority in this development journey.
“I know that investment in education is not wrong. In the next 15 years, these children will carry the Huon Gulf name both in PNG and around the world,” he said.
